PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Weekly public tours of the Governor’s Mansion will begin in less than a month. This is the second summer that public tours are to be offered at the residence. Tickets can be obtained in advance-at no charge-from the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce. Starting June 6, weekly public tours will be conducted each Wednesday in June, July and August. There will be no tour the week of Independence Day, on July 4. The tours will last thirty minutes and will be for groups of up to 30 people. They start at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. The tours are to be conducted by volunteers, along with the First Lady. The free tour tickets must be obtained in advance and are available only from the Chamber. Mrs. Daugaard says in a statement that it is an honor to live in the mansion, but that she and the Governor want to share the home with all South Dakotans because it belongs to everyone. People interested in setting up a mansion tour should call the Chamber of Commerce at 224-7361.
