PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) May is being noted as National Military Appreciation Month. Governor Dennis Daugaard says it is a time to honor, remember, recognize and appreciate those who have served and are now serving-along with their families. Daugaard says his recent visits with South Dakota troops in Kuwait and Afghanistan have given him a renewed appreciation for the service that military members provide to the state and to the country. Adjutant General Timothy Reisch, Secretary of the state Department of the Military says this month should be dedicated to honor all military men and women and their families. He also says the month can be used to educate the nation’s youth on the historical impact the U.S. military has had for the country. National Military Appreciation Month includes special designations including Victory in Europe Day on May 8, Military Spouse Appreciation Day on May 11, Armed Forces Day on May 19 and Memorial Day on May 30.
