SD Tribal Official Pleads Guilty to Felony

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – A Crow Creek Tribal Council member has pleaded guilty to concealing information from authorities investigating a bribery conspiracy on the South Dakota reservation.
Fifty-eight-year-old Loren “Rocky” Fallis of Fort Thompson faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he’s sentenced in July on the charge of misprision of a felony. The Daily Republic reports if a judge approves a plea agreement, Fallis also will pay $1,000 in restitution. Prosecutors in return will drop a charge of making a false statement.
Fallis’ case is intertwined with those of other tribal officials who have been found guilty of bribery or conspiracy charges, including former Tribal Chairman Duane Big Eagle. He is serving three years in prison for a scheme that authorities say involved construction contracts and kickbacks.
