Eagle Butte Man Pleads Guilty to Assault

Mock up of Pierre Federal Building

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) An Eagle Butte man pled guilty to an assault count in federal court in Pierre on Monday. 30-year-old Ervin Addison appeared before U.S. District Judge Roberto Lange and admitted to one count of an indictment that charged him with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. Authorities charged Addison after Cheyenne River Tribal Police responded to a stabbing last July. Police were told that Addison had stabbed a victim and then stabbed himself several times in the stomach. The victim, who was pregnant, suffered a laceration above the sternum that penetrated into deep tissue. Addison will be sentenced on July 16 and is in custody until that day. He could be given up to a ten year sentence, along with a fine of up to $250,000.
