SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A pair of Augustata Track and Field Athletes have earned weekly honors from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Augustana sophomore Paul Yak provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second time this season in the men’s 10,000-meter run, finishing fifth at the Drake Relays in a school record 29 minutes, 56.98 seconds. The sophomore beat his previous school record of 30:17.67 set April 19 at the Mt. SAC Relays. The time ranks Yak 17th in the nation and first in the NSIC. Yak was named the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week. The Women’s Track Athlete of the Week is Viking junior distance runner Kyle Blakeslee who had a tremendous showing for Augustana last weekend, winning the first women’s individual title at the Drake Relays for the Vikings in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Blakeslee topped her South Dakota state and school record set April 19 at the Mt. SAC Relays to finish first in 10:18.71 (14 seconds ahead of the NCAA autoqualifing mark or 10:35). She remains third in the nation with a time three seconds faster than the one she previously recorded.
