PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A ribbon cutting and open house will be held next week to note a new partnership between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Great Lakes of South Dakota Tourism Association. The event will take place at the Oahe Dam Visitor andInterpretiveCenterlocated near Oahe Dam on May 11. The Great Lakes Tourism Association relocated its offices April 1 to theVisitorCenter. Karen Kern, who is the Executive Director of the Association, says that will result in the center being open year round. She says the arrangement is a perfect match, as the Corps is the managing arm of theMissouri Riverand Great Lakes Tourism Association promotes the recreational and cultural aspects of the river. The center will offer informational material from Great Lakes of South Dakota Tourism members, the Corps, South Dakota Tourism and Game, Fish and Parks. Next week’s gathering at the center will be open to the public and takes place from 1-3 p.m. The ribbon cutting will start at 1:00 p.m. and will feature Oahe Dam Operations Project Manager Eric Stasch, South Dakota Secretary of Tourism Jim Hagen and the Board of Directors for the Great Lakes Tourism Association. An open house will follow.
