WINNER, S.D. – (DRG News) Muddy conditions have resulted in the South Dakota Department of Transportation closing a three mile stretch of state Highway 73 in Jackson County from the junction of Highway 44 south. The closure is in effect until further notice. The short segment of Highway 73 had been undergoing reconstruction work and the asphalt surfacing has been removed. That has left only a layer of dirt sub-base and today’s rains are making the road impassable. The contractor is expected to have personnel on hand to help motorists in finding an alternate route and to assist emergency vehicles that need to travel through the area.
