BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Two Augustana Track and Field Athletes have earned weekley awards from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Tom Karbo and Kyle Blakesee have been named the Male and Female Track Athletes of the Week. Karbo ran 8:44.37 in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase and now holds the second fastest time in the nation with his automatically qualifying mark at the Mt. SAC Relays, hosted by Mt. San Antonio College in California. The time earned Karbo a first-place finish and is 12 seconds faster than the automatic qualifying time of 8:56.00. He also ran the 5,000 meters in 14:08.27 to notch the fastest time at Augustana in 25 years. Blakeslee won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and automatically qualified for the NCAA National Championships at the Mt. SAC Relays, circling the oval in 10 minutes, 21.01 seconds; which was more than two seconds faster than the runner-up finisher from Arizona State. The mark is third in the nation and also reset the South Dakota state and school record.
