PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Two Colorado men, one of whom authorities say is a Guatemalan national, were arrested Sunday afternoon after police were called to an assault that had taken place in the 300 block of South Poplar Avenue around 3:00 p.m. Pierre Police Captain Elton Blemaster says officers were told that a 28-year-old Pierre man was outside an apartment building in that neighborhood when he saw two men-one of whom he recognized-and believed was a danger to him. Blemaster says the two men chased him into the apartment building-where he was assaulted. The man sustained cuts to his face and during the assault, Blemaster says one of the men forced the victim to remove two rings and give them to him. The two men were later located at the Days Inn and were arrested without incident. 34-year-old Edvin Pellecer Contreras, who listed Commerce City, Colorado as his address, was arrested on charges of Second Degree Robbery and Attempted Simple Assault. 37-year-old Eduardo Sarabia of Aurora, Colorado was taken into custody for Disorderly Conduct. Blemaster says Contreras is a Guatemalan national and reportedly did not have proper documentation to be in the United States. He is being held at the Hughes County Jail on a detainer for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement and could be deported. Blemaster says the victim of the crime declined medical attention Sunday. The rings the man said were taken from him were not recovered and there is no value on the jewelry listed in the police report.
