PIERRE, S.D. DRG News-Jeri Thomas (news@dakotaradiogroup.com)Facilities at several state park campgrounds are opening ahead of schedule, thanks to the unseasonably warm spring. State Parks and Recreation Director Doug Hofer says when the weather cooperates, people find it is a great time to camp at state parks. He says there are plenty of campsites available now and no reservations are needed. Right now, at least one shower house is open for access to shower and toilet facilities at several state parks, including Cow Creek Recreation Area north of Pierre, Lake Louise Recreation Area near Miller, West Bend Recreation Area east of Pierre and West Whitlock Recreation Area near Gettysburg. Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis until May 18, when sites can be reserved. Camping reservations can be made online 90 days before arrival by visiting www.campsd.com or by calling 1-800-710-2267.
