Lower Brule Man Pleads Guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute Diazepam/Valium

Fingerprint Card

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A Lower Brule man pled guilty in federal court to an indictment that charges him with Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV Controlled Substance. 38-year-old Russell Thigh appeared before U.S. District Judge Roberto Lange on Thursday and entered his plea to the charge. Authorities say Thigh mistakenly called a wrong cell phone on September 27 of 2010 and tried to sell Valium to the unknown woman who answered. She reported the call to the Fort Thompson Police Department and police used that information to conduct a sting. Police confiscated 77 Diazepam/Valium pills from Thigh as part of the sting in the parking lot of the Lode Star Casino. The maximum penalty for the charge is five years in custody, a $250,000 fine or both. Thigh will be sentenced on July 2 and has been released on bond until that date.
