LEAD, S.D. (AP) – Officials from the U.S. Department of Energy recently visited the Sanford Lab to learn about laboratory’s progress and operations.
The Black Hills Pioneer reports that Michael Procario and Eli Rosenberg with the Department of Energy toured the Sanford Lab facilities Monday.
The tour included a look at the surface lab for the Large Underground Xenon dark matter detector and an underground walk-through at the 4,850-foot level.
Representatives from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory also took part in the tour. Federal funds for the Sanford Lab are channeled from the Department of Energy through Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Lawrence Berkeley physicist Kevin Lesko is leading the effort to build the lab. He says he was pleased with the tour and presentations.
