PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Today, the Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area will host the final portion of a civics tournament that’s been underway the past four weeks. The club used an online program called iCivics in running the event for 8th graders from Georgia Morse Middle School. The iCivics website uses games that teach students about our government and the importance of civic engagement. Along the way, students were given points based on how they performed in each game. A total of 148 8th graders signed up for the tournament. The top four point earners were Austin Lentsch, Ryan Sheldon, William Ellwanger and Haley Ketteler. They will compete in today’s finale quiz bowl to determine the champion. The event is sponsored by District 24 State Representative Tad Perry and he will serve as moderator. Also, Lt. Governor Matt Michels will be there today to address students and spectators. The finale event will be held at Capital University Center starting at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon and lasting until 7:00 p.m. To learn more about iCivics, visit www.icivics.org and for further information about the Boys and Girls Club, find their website at www.bgccaparea.org.
