PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota Radio Group) – The Pierre Governor Wrestling team held it’s season ending awards banquet recently. The Governors, who won their first state championship in 38 years, last month are coached by Ryan Noyes who handed out several post season awards. Among them, Senior Chase Lettau, the only senior on the varsity squad this season, won the Obenauer Memorial Award for great leadership. He also earned the award for the top record of the season as he went 36-5 on the year. Lane Lettau won the Most Pins Award as he set a school record with 32 pins on the season. Both Chase and Lane Lettau and Caleb Stoltenberg, the Governors lone state champion, were awarded with the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award. Dawson Monfore and Jebben Keyes were given the Most Improved Wrestler Award. Nick Weibe won the Future Governor Award. Kyle Sarringer won the Broer Hustler Award. Aaron O’Day won the Most Escapes Award while Mark Ray won Outstanding JV Award. And the Brooks Monfore Heart of a Champion Award was given to his brothers, Tanner and Dawson Monfore. Brooks Monfore recently lost his fight with cancer.
